All About Birth Photography - FAQ

Updated: Mar 16, 2019

Birth photography is my favorite happening. Emotions run deep as the room is captivated with new life. There is nothing quite comparable to the look of elation on the face of a new mom or dad. The moments are raw and pure and everything about my documentary style of photography is in love with the story of birth.

A birth story is so much more than documenting the birth of a child. Documenting birth preserves all of the moments from your birth in tangible form to tell your story. No one story is the same.

Remember the calming comfort that only your birth partner can provide through touch and presence. Preserve the memory of the way your spouse brushed the hair from your face and held your hand. Document the first seconds of life and the moments of excitement and peace that follow.

When should I book?

I am only able to schedule 2 births per month. I recommend booking as soon as possible to ensure your spot on my schedule.

When do you arrive at my birth?

Every birth is different. I arrive when you are in active labor and determine when to leave my house based on how intense or close together your contraction are or 5-6cm dilated. Once I arrive, I stay throughout the duration of your labor + birth and up to 2 hours postpartum.

Do you take pictures of everything?

To simply put it, YES! I document all of the details of your your birth. Labor, delivery and after your baby is born is all captured to tell the story of your birth. I will take photos of as much as you want, but YOU decide how intimate the photos will be. What you want photographed is covered in more detail in our client questionnaire.

Do you photograph all births?

Yes, I love capturing hospital births, cesarean births, and other than hospital births. If you are having a planned cesarean, it is your responsibility to advocate for me being in the operating room. This will have to be approved by your team prior to the date of admission. In the event of a medical emergency and I am unable to enter the operating room, I will hand my camera to your birthing partner and have a quick photography lesson. I will resume taking photos of your postpartum moments as soon as you are back in a room.

How many photos will I receive?

The amount of photos delivered depends on the length of your birth. Typically, I deliver between 100 and 200 photos. Your photos will be delivered and downloaded via a private online gallery.

How long will it take to receive my photos?

I deliver a few images for you to see and share with your friends within 48 hours. Your final gallery will be delivered within 4 weeks of your birth.

Do you take payments?

Absolutely! I offer flexible payment plans throughout your pregnancy with the final payment due by 36 weeks. Payment plans can be customized to fit your needs.

Do you offer sessions besides birth photography?

I offer documentary family and maternity photo sessions that are designed to tell the story of your happenings as they unfold. I capture the giggles, tears and all the moments in between. I also offer Fresh 48 sessions and lifestyle in-home newborn sessions. You can view more information on the sessions I offer here.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to send them my way. I would love to chat more about documenting your birth story. My contact information and more can be found here.

Thanks for stopping by and until next time!
